Job Description:


  1. Repair Machines: The candidate must be autonomously able to:

  • Investigate and determine the root cause of problems working in a team environment
  • Install replacement parts as required
  • Perform necessary set ups and adjustments
  • Perform required testing to ensure satisfactory performance
  • Document work as per ISO procedures


  1. Perform Preventative Maintenance on Production Machinery
  • The candidate is responsible for completing all defined PM activities before established due dates to ensure compliance to procedures


  1. Assemble New Machinery From Engineer’s Drawings
    • Ability to interpret drawings
    • Consult with engineering to improve part design
    • Assemble complex equipment ensuring proper fit and set up
    • Test machine when assembled
    • Comply with ISO standards


  1. Follow all Prescribed Safety Procedures to Comply with Heath and Safety Act
  • Wear proper safety equipment (ie. glasses, shoes, gloves etc) at all times
  • Ensure compliance to all applicable procedures
  • Ensure training requirements are current
  • Check MSDS sheet before using a product or substance to take appropriate precautions
  • Ensure equipment is safe for operators
  • Report any unsafe conditions, injuries, near misses and hazard observations


  1. Fabricate Replacement Parts in the Machine Shop
  • Machine new parts from drawings or broken / worn components
  • Grinding
  • Lathe
  • Milling
  • Fitting / Assembling


  1. Shift Meetings / Communication:
  • Effectively communicate breakdowns and actions taken to resolve
  • Keep production and maintenance personnel informed of daily challenges
  • Participate in Kaizen events to resolve production issues 




Communication/Interpersonal Skills/Contacts


This position requires interaction with co-workers and supervisors on a daily basis to receive instructions / communicate acceptance, and to seek, clarify, exchange or provide information.

The job may be characterized as working toward assigned objectives, more so than following prescribed duties and responsibilities.  Original thinking is required to resolve problems. Judgment is frequently required. 



Scope and Impact of Responsibility


In the Machine Shop, all personnel have to work together towards the end result. 


This is a critical position requiring a high level of technical competence and teamwork to constantly improve equipment OEE while ensuring safety and quality targets are exceeded.  Shift mechanics are responsible for the safety of others as well as themselves when working on equipment.
