Job Description:

The Italo-Canadian Club of Kingston is looking for a self-driven, hard-working Cook with experience cooking a variety of cuisine, including Italian.This candidate needs to be a team player able to assist the Head Chef with food prep and participate in all other kitchen duties. He/She needs to be able towork well under pressure and within a time limit in, at times, a fast-paced environment. This candidate needs to be able to work independently with little to no supervision. The Cook will be required to fill in for the Head Chef when he/she is unavailable.

Must be available to work flexible hours, which fluctuate (week days, weekends and evenings).

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist with food prep
  • Plating food
  • Assist with Set-up/Tear Down for events
  • Help with dishwashing
  • Fill in for Head Chef when required
  • Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
  • Cook food using various utensils, grillers, cooking equipment
  • Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served.
  • Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
  • Ensure kitchen area, equipment and utensils are cleaned
  • Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
  • Check quality of ingredients
  • Monitor stock and advise Head Chef to place orders when there are shortages

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1-3 years cooking experience
  • Experience in all cooking especially Italian cuisine
  • Safe food handling certification
  • Leadership qualities. Show initiative.
  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures, equipment & methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)
  • Knowledge of sanitation procedures standards and health codes
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Very good communication skills

Additional Requirements: Food Handling Safety Certificate
