Job Description:

Environmentall Contracting Services Inc (ECSI) is looking for an exceptional individual to fulfill the role of Estimator. In this position you will be directly involved with the estimating process, sales, budgeting, and stakeholder relations. Through innovative and forward-thinking ideas, you will assist in growing this values-based company.

ECSI has been in operation since 2009 and is a leader in environmental, industrial, restoration and construction services. We currently employ over 70 full-time positions year-round. REPORTING TO: Divisional Manager

The Estimator is responsible for the overall estimating process and job/bid tender proposal and quotations, including but not limited to:

  • Estimating Processes
  • Sales
  • Budgeting and Estimating
  • Brand Relations
  • Stakeholder Relations
  • Financial Performance


Including but not limited to the following:

Estimating Process:

  • Establish standardized procedures, methods and processes for estimating
  • Analyze historical costing to support estimate process
  • Establish and execute standards and deliverables, including but not limited to:
    • Bid packages
    • Security Clearances
    • Quotations
    • Estimate Sheet
    • Job Scope Definition


  • Outside Sales:
    • Market and sell product offering within ICI and Residential setting
    • Research and respond to Bid Tenders/RFP’s, including but not limited to:
      • Biddingo
      • Merx
      • KCA
    • Inside Sales:
      • Support and estimate intercompany projects/jobs to benefit/leverage economies of scale and full-service offering compliment


  • Define and detail scope per client specifications:
    • RFP Defined
    • RFI
    • Work with client/consultant to define
  • Identify potential risks
  • Complete budgeting and scheduling for projects, monitor progress
  • Prepare estimate sheet detailing:
    • Labour hours
    • Material spec
    • Equipment spec
    • Other (consulting, 3rd party services, etc.)
    • Schedule constraints
  • Liaise with Project Coordinator to prepare Quote
  • Liaise with client to secure PO
  • Initiate Job Setup with Project Coordinator upon receipt of PO
  • Prepare Job Package with Project Coordinator to pass to PM:
  • Scope Definition Sheet
  • Estimate Sheet
  • Communicate and co-ordinate with Project Coordinator and Project Manager to estimate change orders resulting from:
    • Scope Change
    • Schedule Change
    • other
  • Liase with Project Manager to review and analyze job profitability tracking to assess job estimating, job costing, job performance
    • Progress
    • Final

Brand Relations:

  • Act as “Brand Ambassador” at all times
  • Recognize and refer intercompany services
  • Balance growth, profits, quality and H&S simultaneously to build and preserve brand

Stakeholder Relations:

  • Support team to balance and satisfy 4 key stakeholders simultaneously:
    • Client
    • Employees
    • Shareholders
    • Contractors
    • Authorities
  • Support field personnel by addressing any concerns

Financial Performance:

  • Drive top line growth through new client acquisition
  • Preserve and support bottom line through:
    • Effective estimating
    • Selective job acquisition
    • Efficient process deliverables


  • University degree or college diploma in business, engineering, architectural or construction
  • 5+ years’ experience estimating both ICI and Residential projects to the $5 million range


  • Detailed understanding of construction practices
  • Detailed understanding and ability to read and interpret blue-prints and CCDC specifications
  • Strong knowledge of the laws and ordinances regulating building construction
  • Strong knowledge of MOL and MOE guidelines and legislation
  • Passion for selling and ambition to excel
  • Respect and appreciation for detail and quality
  • Clear and concise communication style
  • Team player
  • Experience managing and monitoring budgets.
  • Effective time management and logical decision-making ability
  • Proficiency in MS Office Skills (Excel, Word and Outlook).
